Tuesday Jun 1, 2021.
Leave REI Charlotte around 8:00 AM
11:00 AM meet at the Art Loeb/Cold Mountain Trail Head near the end of the Art Loeb Trail (where we will finish our hike). There are a couple places close by where we can ask permission to leave our return car. (Camp Daniel Boone)
12:00 noon arrive at the Black Balsam Trailhead off the BRP and leave a car (optional for the insecure… potentially leave provisions/change of clothes). This location will be about 18 miles into our hike (pass sometime on day 2 of hike)
1:00 Arrive at the Davidson Campground in Brevard where we will eat lunch then begin our hike.
We should be able to get 10 miles the first day. 3700ft.
June 2nd.
Day 2
We should reach the Black Balsam trailhead (8 miles) where we left the second car (with provisions) and continue a couple miles and camp in the Shining Rock wilderness, Tennent Mountain (great open sky with great views). Total 10 miles 4500ft.
This will leave us with less than 10 miles for day 3&4 with minimal elevation gain. If we finish on day 3, we can drive back to the Davidson campground and camp for the night before heading back to Charlotte.
